How to have a fair Performance Rating !!!

How to perform better in Appraisals !!!

Its the month of March the financial ending period for 2013-2014 for almost 80% of individuals. Its time for Tax Payments, Filling of IT-Returns, Submission of Tax Receipts and  none other than one more important thing your Performance Returns at your respected institutions or workplace.

Basically, I would says its a deciding factor for your monetary returns against your performance ratings. Its definitely a stressful time till you get your performance rating. The entire appraisals cycle is never a happy-g0-lucky period for everyone. Well, I am here to share a few tips which could help you to fare well in your appraisals. Well, it has helped me till date so sharing a few tips. What you should do to increase your prospects of getting good performance rating.

Generally performance reviews are done once a year and it is difficult to correctly evaluate an individuals performance. It is because how much you try managers will basically judge an individual on his past 3-4 months work only. Now reasons why:

a. Because he will be able to remember that much only
b. He is managing a team so has to keep in mind everyone
c. Also, only negative deeds are remembered mostly compared to good deeds.

So, its your duty and need too to make sure your performance appraisals are done fair and everything is taken into consideration before your final rating. So, here are  a few tips listed below on an individuals side what he must take care and keep in consideration before going for a performance appraisal meeting.

Suggestible Tips:

1. You should have a habit of noting your day to day work.
2. Mentioning what task are completed including with timelines and ETA.
3. Considering which task were slipped and what was the actual reason for the same. (Even if the reason of slippage is because of you.)
4. Mention your negative deeds or any complaints , but also mention what have you done to take care that it doesn't repeat or have you improved.
5. Collect appreciation mails and take printouts to take along with you.
6. Collect certification details or any new technology or concept learned and has helped team.

The above points will actually help you to create your Annual Performance Balance Sheet with your positives and negatives in your past one year and supporting documents, mails for your positive/negative deeds will speak for your actions.

I know you must be thinking why would any portray their negatives in a performance meeting. It is because , it shows that you are a fair individual with yourself and would also be fair with your work. You are being honest about your work, character and ethics. It just your managers confidence on you and also he will rethink before evaluating your final performance rating. Trust me this will make a impact !!!

There is a possibility that you must be racing with a few others team mates who also believe that they deserve good performance rating , but this effort will make you stand out in comparison to others and will help you keep ahead of others. A few people reading this article may be laughing at this , thinking ' who has the time to do all this ' but my point is, this is actually what I think and few others too sure, " I have done hard work and would like like justify my hard work against the performance panel."

This is it ! Believe me this your actual annual report card, where you stand after one year will help you make some difference. Any team would like to keep members who are genuine about their work and also honest with their ethics. We always blame the management that they are not fair with the process , but it is actually the responsibility of the individual to make it fair. The process is similar to a saying "You cannot clap with a single hand , you need two hands to clap and make a noise ". So, its you who is actually responsible for the same.
ALL THE BEST !!! to all the individuals for their performance ratings. Hope you get what you deserve.
